Troy Clardy’s life revolves around five things: family, friends, football, food, and travel. It’s a great day any time he can combine at least three of those things!

Born at Offutt Air Force Base near Omaha, Clardy lived an Air Force kid’s life. At age four, he moved to Travis Air Force Base in northern California, and at age nine, he moved to Tinker Air Force Base just outside of Oklahoma City.

Oklahoma is a place where you experience all four seasons: windy, stormy, steamy, and football! Growing up there made a definite impression on Clardy, as he still greets most people with a cheerful “howdy!”, uses “y’all” in everyday off-air conversation, and spends time thinking about his next visit to Braum’s.

Clardy’s broadcasting career began during his junior year of high school, when he was selected to be an anchorperson for the Student News Corps at KOCO-TV, Oklahoma City’s ABC affiliate. There, he broadcast stories of an educational interest on the popular “Good Morning, Oklahoma!”

After graduating from Midwest City High School (home of the mighty Bombers!), Clardy headed to Stanford University. The plan was to go to architecture school after Stanford, but after taking 58 units his junior year, Clardy was just a little burned out on school. Fortunately by this time, he had made a name for himself at KZSU-FM, the Stanford student station.

As a freshman, Clardy began as a reporter covering Bill Walsh’s press conferences. Later, he served as host, announcer, and sports director. As the voices of Stanford football and baseball, Clardy called the Liberty Bowl, Sun Bowl, and the College World Series. Along the way, he also served internships at KGO-TV in San Francisco and KOA-AM in Denver.

Clardy graduated from Stanford in 1997, and that summer he latched on at KTCT-AM (“The Ticket 1050”) in San Francisco. That fall he began producing KTCT’s Stanford men’s basketball pregame shows, which he began hosting two years later. By 2000, Clardy was hosting all pregame, postgame, and coaches’ shows for Stanford football and men’s basketball. He covered the Cardinal at the Rose Bowl and hosted pregame shows live courtside during the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

In 2005, Clardy moved to Connecticut and worked as a Producer for the ESPN Radio Network. He produced “The Huddle on ESPN Radio” with John Clayton, “College GameDay Scoreboard” with Mel Kiper, Jr., and “The NFL on ESPN Radio.” Clardy also worked closely with Mike Tirico and Chris Mortensen, and he hosted and produced “Inside The AFL”, ESPN’s weekly arena football podcast.

Currently, Clardy is the Executive Producer at 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh, where he will also host his own show on Saturdays starting in the spring. He also still maintains a presence in Bay Area sports media, hosting the “Stanford Daily Update” on XTRA Sports 860 in San Francisco. He also provided color commentary for San Jose SaberCats arena football broadcasts on KNBR-AM, and still writes his popular “Clardy’s Corner” columns weekly on TheBootleg.com during the Stanford football season.
